All students who have applied for spring/summer 2021 graduation will receive an email to their Illinois State University email address in mid-February with Redbird Stage Crossing registration links. Spring and winter 2020 graduates need to complete the 2020 Graduate Communication Form with their personal (not Illinois State) email address by February 26 to receive the Redbird Stage Crossing registration email.
During the Redbird Stage Crossing, the graduate’s name will be read as they cross a commencement stage. A slide, personalized with their information, will appear. Professional photographers will be present to take formal commencement portraits. Graduates will receive their diploma cover and commencement programs will be available.
A variety of weekday and weekend dates in late April and early May will be available, with appointment times ranging from late morning to early evening. Graduates will be asked to select one 15-minute timeslot when registering.
This is a non-seated event and expected to take approximately 15-20 minutes from check-in to exit.
Up to four guests may accompany each graduate inside Redbird Arena.
The wearing of cap and gown is optional but may be purchased by March 15 through Jostens, if desired.
Masks/face coverings will be required for all who attend, although graduates will be able to remove their masks for photos and while crossing the stage. The graduate and their guests must enter Redbird Arena together and stay together as a group. Physical distancing between groups will be expected. This is a non-seated event.
Spring and summer 2021 graduates who do not attend the Redbird Stage Crossing will be sent a package with their diploma cover, commencement program books, commemorative tassel, and alumni keychain in early May. All 2020 graduates received these items when they completed their degrees.
Cords and stoles provided by Registered Student Organizations, Athletics, and campus departments are managed individually by those organizations. Please reach out to your contact within that specific organization. Many of these groups plan to distribute stoles/cords prior to the Redbird Stage Crossing dates.
If you complete the requirements for a degree at the end of the spring 2021 or summer 2021 semester, you will be considered a graduate at that time.
Diplomas will be mailed to the address indicated on the application for graduation approximately 10-12 weeks following the conclusion of the semester in which you complete your degree.
The size of the diploma is 10" x 8".
If you have earned a Latin honors designation (Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Cum Laude), the Office of the University Registrar will mail your honor cord to you later this semester.
Please refer to the student honors/honor cord section for additional information.
August graduates may participate in the Redbird Stage Crossing.
